Megan and Amy walking around the "Forest to Lava" park.
"A forest of tall ohi'a trees with their red lehua (flowers) covered this land over 200 years ago. A variety of hapu'u, uluhe, and sword ferns carpeted the forest floor. 'le'ie vines climbed the ohi'a trunks while bird nest ferns perched in the branches. The Flow of hot lava scorched the land as it burned and covered everything in its path. After the trees burned and lava cooled, the lava molds remain. Within years, new growth appeared in the lava cracks where the moisture collects."
